Classes
- Chemistry
- I enjoyed learning about balancing equations. It was really fun learning how to
incorporate algebraic principles into science related material.
- The topic of Stoichiometry was in interesting combination of balancing equations
and making ratios out of them. This connected to our geometry topic of ratios, only
instead we did ratios of shapes
- Although I enjoy science, I do not do much outside study related to it.
- History
- We have been studying the major world wars; WW1, WW2, and the Cold War. I have found all of
these topics quite interesting.
- Another unit we have gone over is the Decolonization of Africa and Asia. I learned about the
key historical figures who led the decolonization, and about the resistance groups that fought with the
Europeans
to become free from them.
- I have done a lot of outside research on WW2 in the past with one of my friends. We both share a
strong interest in the topics of military technology and advancement. I have done research on my own,
referencing websites, journals, and watching movies/documentaries.
- Math
- We have studied scale drawings and ratios in Geometry this year. I have enjoyed doing this
since I have taken other classes, such as green architecture, that have referenced and taught scale drawings.
- Our final project this year involves designing a package and finding the costs to build and ship it
as a product. I like that this project has a lot of real world applications, such as budgeting and
innovation. We created an original package concept and did scale drawings of it, found out the amount of units
that
could fit in a box, how much it would cost to make 1 unit, and how much it would cost to ship large
quantities of packages.
- Spanish
- Throughout the year, I have improved my ability to actually speak spanish. Every day, we practice having
conversations while using the content we learn in class. I feel like now that I can speak Spanish somewhat
smoothly, I have a better understanding of the language.
- Because I have studied language almost every year, I have begun learning to speak other languages.
I recently decided I will start learning Italian over the summer, since I will be going there over spring break
next
year.
- English
- We have just finished reading the books Julius Caesarand Frankenstein. I have
really enjoyed reading these classics, even though in the past I have dreaded reading Shakespeare.
After reading these, I feel like I can appreciate these older works of literature even more, and perhaps
read a book over the summer that isn't required.
- I am doing a final project that involves me teaching the class a lesson of my choice. I have decided to focus
on a few key themes from Frankenstein. I will be giving a presentation and writing a 10
page paper on the subject matter. Although this is a lengthy project, I feel like I have developed a
thorough understanding of the book, and I feel very cnfident about my upcoming presentation.
